This lets you specify your search parameters for a logical search.

 

The logical search is evaluated from left to right with the full expression displayed in the dialog boxs title bar and the brackets showing the order of evaluation. To reduce the number of strings searched for, a following text entry should be left blank.

For multiple disk searches you can use the list of drives to select your requirements while for folder searches you can use both the list of folders and the list of drives if necessary.

 

Alternatively you can type in your folder or list of drives into the Folder/Drives edit box directly or select a previous entry from the history list.

 

Text1

Enter your first search string here. The string is treated as a regular expression if the Regular Expression option on General options is selected. Previous search strings can be retrieved from the history list. The maximum string length is 512 characters.

 

File Spec.

Enter your file specification here. You can use any wildcards in your specification and you can use more than one specification if it is separated by a space. If your file specification contains a space it should be enclosed in double quotes. Previous file specifications can be retrieved from the history list.

Search readme.txt

*.*

Search all files

*.txt *.doc

Search all files with the .txt and .doc extension.

"read me.txt" *.doc

Search read me.txt and all files with the .doc extension

 

Folder/ Drives

Either the currently selected folder is shown here or if you have selected one or more drives to be searched then these will be shown. You can also directly type in a folder name or a list of drives. If you enter a list of drive names then these must be separated by a space i.e. a: b: c:. Previous folders or drive lists can be retrieved from the history list.

 

Drives

Available drives are listed here. To change drive, double click on your selection. If you want to search across one or more drives then click once on the required drive. You can use the shift and control keys with the mouse to quickly select a number of drives.

 

Search

Starts your search.

 

Save

Saves your search parameters to file with the Save Search Parameters dialog box.
