You can supply passwords to be used in your searches if some of your files happen to be encrypted. You can enter your passwords by using the Search Password Dialog Box (Options | Search passwords) or by entering them in the Passwords Tab in the respective search dialog boxes.

 

The program does not save your passwords and they must be supplied each time you run the program. The only password information that is saved is a password digest which is a one way SHA256 digest based on the password. You cannot retrieve the original password from this digest but it can be used to authenticate a password when it is entered. For example, when a search results file is read in to the program and an encrypted file is viewed.

 

The program cannot retrieve passwords from files if you have forgotten them.
